South African Art Records at London Auction

South African artworks fetched record sales at the Bonham South Africa Art sale in London held in February 2009, with 280 artworks selling for a total of £1.7m (R24.7million).
Top seller was Maggie Laubser’s Indian girl with poinsettias which more than doubled pre-sale estimates and sold for R4 million.
Bonhams next South African Art sale is scheduled to take place on October 14th 2009. Bonhams is currently consigning works for the exhibition with a particular focus on artists such as Gerard Sekoto, Alexis Preller and Maggie Laubser.
