The effects of the recession have taken a hit on the boxing world even for boxing icon and undisputed light heavyweight world champion, ‘Bad Chad’ Dawson. Logo space on Dawson’s shorts is up for auction on eBay for his next fight. In this financial crisis, even premium ad placements face challenges. Dawson’s well known agent, manager and national marketing guru, Jay “Belly” Henderson, is combating the recession by auctioning off the logo space on eBay beginning February 12 and ending February 18. Bidding will start at $20,000, a great value in today’s marketing environment. . Advertisers can place their bid on eBay from the following link: www.ChadDawsonAuction.com. Dawson, will face Antonio Tarver for the second time on March 14th, 2009 at the Palms in Las Vegas to defend his title.
Dawson-Tarver 2 will be broadcast on HBO with potentially over two-million expected viewers. “This fight will get the attention of boxing fans, making him one of the best recognized pound-for-pound fighters,” says Henderson. Last time Dawson and Tarver fought, Dawson took the IBF and IBO light heavyweight titles from Tarver with ease in a 12 round unanimous decision, making him the favored contender in their upcoming rematch.
“Chad is an amazing athlete and highly regarded in the boxing world. I can’t believe the recession has hit this deep. Any advertiser would be crazy not to look at this opportunity. The value for an advertiser to be seen on the boxing champion’s shorts for potentially 12 rounds on HBO is off the charts,” says Ed Butowsky, managing partner of Chapwood Capital Investment Management, LLC of Dallas, TX and wealth manager for high-profile athletes and celebrities.
