Burke and Wills Pocket Watch Auction

Bonhams & Goodman are auctioning a gold pocket watch inscribed, ‘Wm. John Wills Explorer Melbourne 1860 R.O.H.B. Wills’, the inscription relates to William John Wills, Burke’s partner in the ill-fated 1860 expedition into the Australian outback.
Three watches had been taken on the expedition to help with navigation and as was custom each was referred to by its individual serial number.
The watch will be offered at the Sydney Fine Jewellery Auction on Monday 22 September at 6pm.
