Cardamom e-auction

Published June 12th, 2008

Cardamom growers and traders have predicted a good crop and an early harvest for the coming season, due to consistent summer rains.

The harvesting has already started and the auctioning for the new season is tentatively slated for June 22, said PC Punnoose, general manager of Kerala Cardamom Processing and Marketing Co-operative Society.

The auctions in the previous season are almost over with hardly any arrivals coming to the market. Of the seven auctions, only two are being conducted and the price is hovering around Rs 620 per kg.

The e-auctions in cardamom were introduced last year and are being successfully conducted at Bodinaikkanur and Vandanmedu.
