Published May 31st, 2008
A three-week carbon-neutral Antarctica trip for two, donated by ecotour company Natural Habitat Adventures and valued at $33,590, is being offered in an online auction with bids starting at $25,000 and closing June 30, 2008. Proceeds from the auction will benefit nonprofit Global Explorers.
The comprehensive three-week Antarctic expedition up for auction was named a 2008 National Geographic Adventure magazine “Best New Trip” and its 2008 sailing was the world’s first carbon-neutral Antarctic trip. “The 2009 trip we’re auctioning will be the world’s second carbon-neutral Antarctic trip,” says Natural Habitat Adventures founder and director Ben Bressler, who adds, “Natural Habitat Adventures supports nonprofit organizations that embrace our mission of protecting and preserving the wildlife that live in the remarkable places of the world. Global Explorers is a terrific organization that shares a conservation philosophy with their students who may then grow up to make a difference.”
The auctioned trip explores the remote wilderness of the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. Known for abundant wildlife including whales, seals, king penguins, and seabirds, the area also boasts pristine landscapes and legendary history. Expedition leaders include top naturalists, geologists and polar experts. Dates for the trip are January 22-February 10, 2009.
