Ocean Tomo to Sell Patents Aimed at Maximizing Efficiency and Relevancy of Internet Search Process at Live IP Auction on 26 June in Amsterdam

CHICAGO - Ocean Tomo Auctions today announced that it will offer for sale a Lot of Digital Media Systems & Management patents disclosing methods for selectively augmenting retrieved information from a network resource at The Ocean Tomo 2008 European Live IP Auction. US Patents 5,987,454 and 6,523,022 will be offered by DataNav, LLC and inventor Allen Hobbs as Lot 7 at The Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam on 26th June.
The ‘454 and ‘022 patents seek to prevent online information from overwhelming internet users. They describe a concerted and coordinated effort to maximize the search process by providing additional, relevant, and in-depth information at the moment a user wants further clarification of something read, heard, or viewed online. The United States Patent and Trademark Office allowed the 61 claims of the ‘454 patent and the 41 claims of the ‘022 patent without amendment.
“Ocean Tomo is excited to offer these patents, as they bring a very unique opportunity to the market,” said Andrew T. Ramer, President of Ocean Tomo Auctions. “The broad applicability in fields as diverse as online music and news, search technology, finance, and telecommunications makes this patent portfolio an extremely attractive asset to own for players across multiple fields.”
Technologies disclosed by the patents provide an efficient method and associated apparatus for retrieving remote written, sound, or visual files of information on demand. The patents address the user’s desire for additional information by employing an expert algorithm, which, although residing on a remote server, is associated with the content of the original link. Unlike standard search protocol where the user formulates the query before sending it to the database, the coupling of the query argument with the request occurs on a remote server after the user’s initial activation of a link, and before the query reaches the database.
“When the internet user seeks further clarification of what he or she just read, viewed, or heard, the methods described in the ‘454 and ‘022 claims alleviate his or her burden of knowing where to search, how to search, and even what keywords and terms of art to use for the search,” said Allen Hobbs, President of DataNav, LLC. “From the perspective of the user, the patents simplify the online search experience. The usefulness of this technology has been demonstrated by its apparent widespread adoption since the filing of both patents.”
The technology is relevant to a variety of industries, including but not limited to companies related to online music, search technology, wireless mobile and communication software, mobile enterprise software, telecommunications, telephony, application software, finance, computer hardware, and network communication. Potential licensees may include advertising agencies, documentation management software providers, information technology researchers and developers, and internet search engines.
