Published March 3rd, 2008
Striking images by giants of photography such as Cartier-Bresson and Annie Liebovitz are amongst the breathtaking photographs for sale at Bloomsbury on 22nd May 2008.
This sale is the first from Bloomsbury’s revitalised Photography Department and it will focus on the 20th century, with works by key photographers from each decade. Cornerstone artists such as André Kertész and Brassai are among those representing the early 20th century, alongside Henri Cartier-Bresson and Imogen Cunningham. The sale also boasts a fine example of Irving Penn’s platinum printing as well as vintage prints by William Eggleston, the pioneer of early colour photography. Admirers of fashion photography will be excited by Norman Parkinson’s work for British Vogue.
Photographs by contemporary household names such as Robert Mapplethorpe, Helmut Newton and Annie Leibovitz will also be represented as well as a rich variety of lesser-known photographers whose work has been carefully selected to appeal to all tastes, interests and pockets.
