Hilltop Nursery School, Child and Family Development Center will host its annual silent auction on Saturday, March 15, 2008, from 6 to 10 pm at Art Share Los Angeles in the downtown Traction arts district. Featuring merchandise, gift certificates, and collectibles from a wide-range of merchants throughout Eagle Rock, Silver Lake, Los Feliz, Echo Park, and the entirety of the Los Angeles area, the silent auction yearly serves as the school’s largest fundraiser. Hilltop is unique on the east side of Los Angeles for its commitment to mixed-income enrollment and to progressive, play-based education. With more than 50% of its student body coming from lower to moderate income families, the school relies on a combination of grants, fundraising, and tight budgeting to offer the diverse communities it serves the best pre-school experience possible. Under the guidance of program director Angela Roa, Hilltop has been recognized by Eric Garcetti and other community leaders for its innovative and long-standing success in preparing young children not just for success in school but for success throughout their lives.
More than a fundraiser, Hilltop’s silent auction this year is a fiesta celebrating the diversity, the richness, and the strength of the communities it serves. The event will feature a tequila-tasting bar supplied by Agave Tequila Company, another full-service bar, and multiple dining options. Entertainment includes performances by professional musicians, salsa, tango, and flamenco dancers. Items for sale range from DVDs and clothing to Hollywood experiences and unique art by well-known painters and photographers; from stays at the city’s best hotels and dinners at its best restaurants to professional teeth-whitening treatments and amusement park tickets. In addition to the auction itself, the school will be raffling off a grand prize of dinner for two at the Palms Restaurant followed by courtside seating at a Los Angeles Lakers’ game.
The auction takes place this year at Art Share Los Angeles, located at 801 E. 4th Place in downtown Los Angeles. Free, secure parking is available across the street. Admission is $10, and all proceeds go to Hilltop Nursery School.
