Christies Hong Kong To Auction Rare Diamond

Published February 24th, 2008

Christie’s announces that it will offer a rare diamond of 101.27 carats in the forthcoming Spring Hong Kong jewellery sale on May 28. This extraordinary gem is the largest colourless diamond to appear on the auction market in the last 18 years and is expected to realize in excess of US$6 million. It will be unveiled as part of Christie’s Spring Masterpieces Exhibition held in London February 23 – 27.

“Only 3 colourless diamonds of over 100 carats have ever appeared at auction, all sold in Geneva. With Asia becoming such a vibrant market, it is fitting that this rarest gem should be offered on May 28th to the growing number of collectors in this region,” said Francois Curiel, Christie’s Chairman of Jewellery.

Vickie Sek, Director of the Jewellery and Jadeite Department, Christie’s Asia continued, “As auction leaders in Asia, we hold many records in the jewellery field, but never before were we able to offer such an important stone in Hong Kong. Its appearance on the market has already created a sensation.”
