Car License Plate Sells for Record $14.3m at Abu Dhabi Auction

A car license plate with No. “1″ on it went for a record US$14.3 million at a charity auction in Abu Dhabi.
“I bought it because it’s the best number,” said Saeed Khouri, a member of a prominent Abu Dhabi family that made its fortune in real estate. “I bought it because I want to be the best in the world.”
The record sale beat that of an Emirati license plate that had just No. “5″ on it which was brought by Emirati stock broker Talal Khouri, recently, according to officials at the Emirates’ state-run auction house.
