Wayne Gretzky Jersey Auction to Help Struggling German Hockey Club

Published February 15th, 2008

In order to assist the Black Dragons in its quest to continue to offer professional ice hockey in Thüringen (Germany), Patrick Grueschow asked the club to relay his invitation to all its sponsors and affiliates.

On his last trip to the US, Mr. Grueschow was able to get a Black Dragons jersey signed by the greatest ice hockey player in NHL history, Wayne Gretzky. It is his intention to auction off this very special piece of sports memorabilia and donate the proceeds to the Thüringen ice hockey club. Money raised will help fund equipment costs and player salaries.

Wayne Gretzky is an ice hockey icon and the national treasure of Canada. No other player dominated his sport like Gretzky. Moreover, he owns over 60 NHL records and is the NHL’s all-time leading scorer.

Needless to say, the Gretzky jersey auction is a one-of-a-kind event in the history of Thuringian ice hockey, because it is unlikely to happen again. Furthermore, the personally signed Gretzky EHC Thüringen jersey is unique, because there are no others in existence.

The auction is currently running on EBAY till the 12th of February. It will commence at 1000 EUR and higher. The jersey has Gretzky’s name and trademark number 99 inscribed on its back. Gretzky’s signature is located on the top right of his number.

EBAY Article Number: 120219069369

The EHC Black Dragons Thüringen play in the German Oberliga – roughly comparable to the CHL/UHL and mid ECHL level.
