Ariel Buying Into Sothebys

Ariel Capital Management LLC said it bought 5.7 percent of Sotheby’s auction house, which is based in New York.
Ariel a Chicago-based money-management firm held 3.8 million shares, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
Ariel was previously the biggest investor in Sotheby’s. Its holding grew to 7.5 million shares, or 12.8 percent at the end of 2005, before it sold all of its shares by April 2006.
