eBay Cuts Insertion Fees and Raises Final Value Fees
Published February 1st, 2008
SAN FRANCISO (HammerTap) – eBay Inc. announced drastic changes in seller’s insertion fees and final-value fees, according to HammerTap executive Brian Clark. The changes come immediately following John Donahoe succeeding Meg Whitman as chief executive, which took place last week.
While insertion fees were cut, final-value fees are on the rise. Details of the changes were made known during the annual eCommerce Forum in Washington D.C. on Tuesday.
Perhaps the biggest change in insertion fees is the announcement that using a gallery picture is now free, a savings of $0.35 for sellers. Gallery plus was also cut from $0.75 to $0.35. Changes in insertion fees are schedule to take place on February 20. Sellers shouldn’t jump for joy too fast, because final-value fees were hiked in the opposite direction. The most drastic change will hurt all sellers, as final value fees for items ending with in a price range of $0.01 to $25.00 jump from 5.25 percent of the closing price to 8.75 percent. This jumps from $1.31 to $2.19 for items ending for $25.00. Other announcements were made, including feedback ratings and PowerSeller status.
“Most of the changes will be positive to both buyers and sellers,” says Clark, CTO of HammerTap who attended the conference when the announcements were made. “It looks like Donahoe is focused on making eBay a safer marketplace for both buyers and sellers.”
