Somerfield convenience stores for auction

Somerfield, the convenience store chain, has put itself up for auction.

Citigroup has been appointed to run the auction of the 955 store group, which was bought two years ago by a consortium comprising of Robert Tchenguiz, the property magnate, Barclays Capital and the private equity group, Apax Partners, for £1.8bn.
