The medals awarded to a British fighter ace who downed at least 10 German aircraft and survived three crash landings were due to go up for auction Tuesday.

Wing Commander C. F. “Bunny” Currant first fought German pilots in 1940 as the Germans invaded France.

In all, Currant shot down at least 10 planes, shared the credit for five more kills and damaged a dozen more enemy aircraft, according to Britain’s Royal Air Force Museum.

Bonhams, the auctioneers, said the medals, which include a 1940 Distinguished Flying Cross, a Belgian Croix de Guerre, and a Norwegian Order of St. Olav, are expected to fetch up to 70,000 pounds.
