Chicago Auctioneers Move to Larger Building

Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is moving from her current West Loop location to a new space nearly three times as large.

The auction house, which re-opened in 2003, is moving Thursday to a 30,000-square-foot building at 1338 W. Lake St., which she will own. That is less than half-a-mile away from its current 12,000-square-foot home at 122 N. Aberdeen St.

“We will do about $20 million in business this year,” said Leslie Hindman, president of Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. “I didn’t expect the company to grow so quickly. We have employees who don’t have a desk.”

Ms. Hindman said she had been looking for a bigger building to buy for the past couple of years that offered a parking lot and was on a well-known street in the West Loop. She said she sold the Aberdeen building to Harpo Studios.
