African Romance, South Africa’s first wholly black-owned South African diamond manufacturer, auctioned a 3 carat African Romance diamond at the Soccerex Gala Dinner and Merit Awards in Johannesburg on Tuesday, with 15% of the proceeds going to the Gauteng Sports Trust.
The precious gem was snapped up by Andrew Eborn, CEO of London based Octopus TV for a whopping £ 18,000, equalling over a quarter of a million Rand. The gala dinner in celebration of individual achievements in the world of football, featured 2,000 delegates, VIP’s and some of the game’s living legends, including well known names such as FIFA President Sepp Blatter and South African Soccerex Ambassador Lucas Radebe. In line with the luxurious setting of the event and crowning the evening entertainment was the auction of the 3 carat African Romance diamond. Says Mohseen Valli Moosa, CEO of African Romance: “As part of our commitment to the triple bottom line and sustainable development, 15% of the proceeds of the auction value will go to the Gauteng Sports Trust which is determined to support underdeveloped communities in the Gauteng Province.”
