Swaffham Market auction returns

Swaffham auction was open on Saturday, after a seven-month absence.

The event, which has been held in Swaffham for more than 50 years, closed down after former auctioneer Stephen Green retired in April and nobody stepped forward to take his place.

Recently auctioneer Karl Bennett, of Alexander Auctions, approached the town council about holding the auctions in a marquee on the Town Pit car park and a trial run, was agreed.

Saturday was the first auction, town clerk Richard Bishop said: “We are pleased with the attendance at the auction and it generated more people at the market on Saturday.

“Other traders have reported a better day than they did without the auction there.”
