India Postpones Auction for Oil Exploration Areas to January

Published November 2nd, 2007

India has postponed the launch of its seventh auction of oil and gas exploration areas by two months to January, an official said.

The government pushed back plans to invite bids because Oil Minister Murli Deora is tied down with a parliament session in November, V.K. Sibal, director general of hydrocarbons, said by phone from New Delhi today. The government may offer as many as 70 exploration areas in November, M.S. Srinivasan, secretary to the oil ministry, said in August.
