South Africa: Stephan Welz - Sothebys decorative and fine arts auction

South African master painters dominated the art section at the Stephan Welz/Sotheby’s decorative and fine arts auction in Cape Town last week.
Total sales of nearly R25m and an 89% sold rate were attained.
Irma Stern’s Woman with Hibiscus sold for R3,96m, Jacob Hendrik Pierneef’s Bushveld Trees sold for R1,1m and Fred Page’s The Observer fetched R154000.
The total amount realised for paintings sold was R19,96m.
