Lisa Dennison, director of the Guggenheim Museum in New York since 2005, announced at the end of July she would resign to become an executive vice president of Sotheby’s North and South America division, beginning in early September. Ms Dennison has been at the museum for 29 years. According to the auction house she will be “responsible for international business development and client relationships”, reporting directly to Sotheby’s president and chief executive Bill Ruprecht. As a roving business-getter for the auction house, Ms Dennison says that she will deal with high-end modern and contemporary art, working closely with Tobias Meyer, Sotheby’s worldwide director of Contemporary Art, but the newly created position, based in New York, will not be linked to any single department.
