A rare set of Harry Potter books taht were kept under lock and key in a police station sold for almost £20,000 on eBay.

The seven books, signed by JK Rowling, are believed to be one of only a few sets in the world.

They were auctioned on the internet auction in aid of Aberdeenshire charity Books Abroad. Bidding ended at midnight last night and the books were sold for £18,200.

JK Rowling’s mother-in-law, Barbara Murray, works for the charity, which supplies books to schools in other parts of the world.

Author, JK Rowling agreed to donate the set as part of the organisation’s 25th anniversary celebrations.
