Letters of Maria Callas to be auctioned in Milan

A collection of soprano Maria Callas memorabilia from the estate of her husband of 10 years, including love letters, photographs and musical scores, will be auctioned by Sotheby’s Milan later this year, the auction house said Monday.
The collection includes 63 love letters from Callas to Giovanni Battista Meneghini, her husband during her rise to operatic fame, letters from friends including Leonard Bernstein and Franco Zeffirelli, and photographs of Callas on the stage and in the company of such dignitaries as the late U.S. President John F. Kennedy.
The collection will be open to public display in Milan on Dec. 7, 10, 11 before the Dec. 12 auction.
