Gardai withdraw replica pistols from auction

Published June 28th, 2007

The replica pistols were due to be sold at an auction of lost and stolen goods in Dublin today, but were withdrawn after negative political reaction.

A senior opposition politician called for the silver and black-coloured mock pistols to be pulled from the auction, but the force initially insisted they were harmless toys.

A box of around 27 of the fake firearms, complete with plastic ammunition and two training targets, were part of a lot being auctioned off at Kevin Street Garda Station.
