Peterborough businesses donate generously to charity auction

Peterborough businesses have donated over £8,000 in gifts for Coloplast’s auction of promises event which is being held to raise money for Sue Ryder Care Thorpe Hall Hospice in the city.

The number and value of gifts donated has exceeded Coloplast’s expectations and is more than double what the company originally anticipated. Gifts include weekend hotel breaks, signed football shirts, electronic equipment, use of a Ferrari or a Bentley for the weekend, activity days, luxury health and beauty products and food hampers.

Coloplast aims to raise over £10,000 for Thorpe Hall Hospice from the auction and ticket sales. The event is taking place on 21 September at the Marriott Hotel in Peterborough and tickets are selling fast. 102.7 Hereward FM Breakfast Show presenter Kev Lawrence will auction the gifts on the night and all proceeds will be donated directly to Thorpe Hall Hospice.

In addition to the auction, a glass of champagne on arrival and a light supper will be included and entertainment will be provided by an Abba tribute band.

Thorpe Hall Hospice provides care and support for people and families who are affected by cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Coloplast was inspired to hold the auction of promises by employee Sian Wilson who lost her short fight with cancer just before Christmas. Sadly, the company recently lost another young colleague to cancer in April 2007.

Tricia Kenneley from Coloplast, who is organising the event, said: “We are delighted with the response by companies, they have been incredibly generous and we cannot thank them enough.

“As a company we have lost two incredibly special and valued colleagues in the space of just five months which has had a profound affect on all employees. Our experience has made us all realise how important Thorpe Hall Hospice is for people locally and that public support is crucial to ensure it continues.”
