Royal Marine in trouble over eBay suit sale

A British Royal Marine is in trouble after he tried to sell a suit on eBay that had been given to him when he was taken hostage in Iran.

Lance Cpl. Mark Banks, 24, was ordered to remove the suit from the Internet auction site. The suit had been given to Banks by his captors when he and 14 other hostages were seized March 23 and held for 13 days.

Authorities with the Royal Navy called Banks’ act a disgrace, The Mail on Sunday reported.

“It goes to show what a shambles the whole Iran-hostages situation was,” said Reg Keys, whose son Thomas was one of six Royal Military Police Redcaps killed by an Iraqi mob in June 2003. “I’m sure I could put some of my son’s equipment from Iraq on eBay, but I wouldn’t dream of it.”

In the online ad, the Mail reported, Banks promised to provide potential buyers with a signed photo of him wearing the outfit.
