WestLicht Auctioneers in Austria Sell Earliest Commercially Manufactured Camera

A recently discovered and unique “Daguerreotype” by the Susse Freres dating from 1839 will be sold at the 11. WestLicht Photographica Auction in Vienna on 26th May 2007. It is expected to become the most expensive camera ever! Bids are accepted live, via telephone, fax and also via ebay!

The world sensation, the only recently discovered “Daguerreotype Susse Freres 1839″ is now being exhibited in WestLicht Gallery in Vienna. Bids are invited at the symbolic starting price of 100,000 Euros.

Experts assume that during the course of the auction on 26th May it will become not only the oldest but also the most expensive camera of all times. The camera with the original lens by Chevallier from 1839 is in wonderful original condition and has never been restored or modified.

From now on, up until the WestLicht Photographica Auction on May 26th the camera will be on display in the WestLicht Gallery in Vienna, Austria. At the coming auction it will be lot No. 1 starting at 100.000,- Euro - the proceeds however are expected to exceed the starting price by far. After the hammer has fallen it is very likely that it will not only be the oldest, but also the most expensive camera in the world.

Additionally a selection of 808 lots of the highest quality is offered in the Vienna auction house.

Telephone-bidders can already get registered (only for objects starting at 500,- Euros)
