Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, the world’s largest truck and industrial-equipment auctioneer, kicked off its first sale in Mead with a big crowd.

With 2,600 lots and more than 2,200 bidders on site and over the Internet for the first of a two-day auction, it’s likely to be the largest Ritchie Bros. auction ever in Colorado, with more than $25 million in sales expected, said Kim Schulz, a spokeswoman for the company.

Ritchie Bros. announced in May 2005 that it would move its 39-acre Brighton operation to a 164-acre lot southeast of Interstate 25 and Colo. Highway 66 in Mead.
