Blended whisky set to fetch 16,000 at auction

Published April 3rd, 2007

A BOTTLE of whisky is expected to sell for more than £16,000 when auctioned this month.

The Johnnie Walker 1805 blend will be the first of its kind in Europe to come up for auction.

The blend became an instant collectable when it was created two years ago, as only 200 bottles were made.

Charles MacLean, whisky consultant at the auctioneer Bonhams, said: ”

It was made from very fine whiskies at least 45 years old, mainly from closed distilleries.

“It is especially unusual for a blended whisky to attract such a high price as single malts tend to be more sought after. Collectors go for rarity and I am sure it will attract a lot of bids.
