eBay scammers target Cayman email addresses

Published January 16th, 2007

A rash of spoof emails, claiming to have come from online auction company eBay are being delivered to addresses in the Cayman Islands.

The official looking emails read, “Dear member, we regret to inform you that your eBay account has been suspended due to concerns we have for the safety and integrity of the eBay community.”

The messages go on to quote the eBay user agreement, threatening to suspend or terminate membership and refuse to provide services.

“We may also take these actions if you have breached the User Agreement or if we are unable to verify or authenticate any information you provide to us,” the email said.

It then asks the reader to click on to a link. The link then seeks to obtain information, which would allow unrestricted access to eBay member’s account.
