Velvet Underground disk eBay auction restarted

The Record of the unreleased first album by the Velvet Underground that drew a record-setting $155,000 bid on eBay this week has gone back on the Internet auction block. The original top bidder now says he didn’t mean it and had made the bid through a computer error.
Scott Wax of Saturn Records, the Oakland-based record collector’s record store that offered the prize disc, re-listed the record on Thursday, with the auction set to take place Dec. 21.
“This auction was watched by more than 200,000 people,” said Wax in a statement. “Among those, 258 placed bids. While most of those bids were legitimate, a few placed their eBay handles on the list of buyers just for, it seems, the giddy thrill of seeing it on the list. We feel that these few bad eggs — who had no intention of buying the item — managed to compromise the integrity of the entire auction.”
Bidders this time will have to register and their identities will be kept secret.
