Records Set at Bonhams Greek Sale

Bonhams ninth Greek sale in London on 12.12.06, made £2.2m with strong prices achieved across the board, topped by five new world record prices as expatriate Greeks snapped up their national picture heritage.
The top lot – 162, `Summer’ by Yiannis Moralis, (b1916) – made £240,800 against an expected estimate of £130,000 to £180,000, a new world record for this artist.
Lot 104, `The Sailor’, by Nikos Engonopoulos, (1910-1985) was another world record at £162,400 from an estimate of £80,000 to £100,000.
Lot 69, `Shores of Tinos’, by Nikolaos Lytras, (1883-1927), a beautiful tranquil seascape with fishing boats, made £104,600 against a top estimate of £90,000 – another world record.
Lot 137, `Ascent’ by Alecos Kondopoulos, (1905-1975) made £39,600 against an estimate of £10,000 to £15,000. Another world record.
And the last world record price was for Lot 176 `The Rider’ by Christos Sarakatsianos, (b1937) which made £15,600 against an estimate of £6,000 to £8,000.
