Audrey Hepburn’s iconic black dress went for $807,000 at auction, reports Forbes. The price, paid by a telephone bidder, was almost six times the highest pre-sale estimate.
The actress wore the dress for her best-known role in the 1961 film “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. The garment was designed by Hubert de Givenchy as well as Hepburn’s wardrobe for films “Sabrina” and “Funny Face”.
Proceeds from the sale will go to the charity City of Joy Aid, which helps India’s poor. The founders of the charity had received the dress as a gift from Givenchy.
According to Daily Mail, the dress has been bought by Victoria Beckham or Coleen McLoughlin as both of them are fans of the late actress.
