Goya drawing auctioned in London

El Toro Mariposa – The Butterfly Bull, a surrealist drawing by Spanish painter Francisco de Goya, has reached a record amount for a Goya drawing at auction, – 1 million 900,000 € at Christie’s in London.
The amount more than doubled expectations, and the firstly anonymous buyer is now revealed to be none other than the Spanish Ministry for Culture.
The 19cm by 15cm drawing shows a bull, suspended by the wings of a butterfly and dates from the time when the painter was in voluntary exile in Bordeaux at the end of his life.
