Indiana 1976 championship ring being auctioned on eBay

A ring commemorating Indiana’s 1976 NCAA basketball championship is being auctioned on eBay.
The anonymous seller said Thursday he obtained the ring through the estate of the late Harold Andreas, who was one of Bob Knight’s assistant coaches in 1976, the last time a Division I team finished unbeaten.
“I am the only one to have owned the ring other than Andreas,” the seller said. “I am not a sports collector, nor an eBay-selling freak.”
The bidding, which ends Sunday, started at $2,500 on Nov. 23 and was up to $33,300 by Thursday evening.
“My decision to attempt to sell the ring was based on two factors,” he wrote. “This is the 30th anniversary of the perfect season, and it’s also the season in which Knight will no doubt eclipse Dean Smith’s record for all-time wins. The timing seems right to try and figure out what the ring might command.”
According to the listing on eBay, the seller lives in Austin, Texas. Knight, who was fired by Indiana in 2000, is now the coach at Texas Tech.
The seller said he has not been in contact with Knight about the ring. “It’s my hope that the ring lands in the hands of someone associated with Indiana.”
