Auction house majors Sotheby’s and Christie’s are expected to break records when the collections from sales pour in next week.
Paintings by modern masters Picasso, Klimt and Cezanne among others are expected to fetch at least $50 million.
Initial estimates suggest that the Christie’s auction could set a record for the largest ever sale of impressionist and modern art.
Christie’s expects to sale various pieces from Klimt’s collection for around $30 million.
Picasso’s masterpiece portrait of Angel Fernandez de Soto, too, is likely to fetch up to $60 million.
The $225 million sale of impressionist and modern art next week will be its biggest impressionist sale yet with more than half a dozen works expected to fetch at least $10 million.
