Canada Cattle Update: Summer & Fall Auction Market Volumes

The number of cattle sold in Alberta auction markets throughout much of this summer was larger than last year’s volumes during the same time period. In the weeks from the start of July to the end of August the total number of head sold through Alberta’s auction markets (including any satellite and internet sales) was 185,643 head, up substantially from the same period last year. In 2005 the total sold in the same two months was 101,783 head, a difference of almost 84,000 head, or 82% more in 2006. In July and August 2004 the total marketing was 101,297 head.
