Dougherty County to auction surplus goods

Published October 10th, 2006

Dougherty County commissioners are considering using a government auction website, govdeals.com, to sell surplus or confiscated items via the internet. Assistant County administrator Thomas Thomas says the website will help the county get rid of old equipment sooner. He says, “We put them out for bid up to 30 days, as opposed to having a one day auction on a Saturday, gives us a larger source of customers, gives us the opportunity not to have those items laying around and depreciating, so I think it’s a win-win for the county.”

The online auction site also exposes more potential buyers to the surplus equipment. Govdeals.com has approximately 80,000 registered users.
