I LOVE U auto plate sells for 180,000 dollars in Hong Kong

The car registration plate I LOVE U sold for 180,000 US dollars Saturday in the first auction of novelty personalized plates in the city of 6.8 million. Buyers crowded into a government auction of unusual car number plates which included the chance to have the slogans HANDSOME, BABYFACE and MR DVD on the front and back of cars.
Around 770,000 US dollars was raised in the morning session alone Saturday with the highest price paid for I LOVE U, a plate which attracted fierce bidding.
The personalized plates are among the first batch to be auctioned off by the territory’s government in a new scheme to raise money by releasing unusual combinations of letters and numbers for car plates.
Among the other car plates to be sold at an auction on September 15, all with a reserve price of 5,000 Hong Kong dollars (642 US dollars) are ones that read NEPTUNE, MASTER, and HEHEHAHA.
The Personalized Vehicle Registration Marks Scheme is expected to generate nearly 9 million US dollars a year for the Hong Kong government, which will be spent on projects for the poor.
