Baby for sale on eBay attracts police attention
Published August 21st, 2006
One of the most bizarre auctions has been put up for sale on eBay – a mother is selling her two- month-old baby.
However, whether it’s a prank or a serious offer is still a dilemma.
Though the bid, which started at £1 pound failed to attract any bidder, it managed to draw the attention of the police, as selling a child on a web-site is illegal under human-trafficking laws.
According to The Scotsman newspaper, the auction began last Tuesday under the heading of “Baby for Sale – unwanted – already have two”.
The web site stated, “1p start! Unwanted Baby! It’s a girl of two months, comes with full history since birth.”
“Drinks lots of milk and is very smiley. I do not want it. Its messey and smells a lot. Bid now before I flush it down the toilet. No returns!!!”
