Christie’s watch department sales in the first half of 2006 totaled $27.1 million, garnering 70 percent of market share for the period, Christie’s said in a statement Wednesday.
A highlight of the season was the May 2006 Geneva watch sale, which raked in $13.65 million, well above pre-sale estimates of $8 million. The sale represents the highest ever in the watch category at Christie’s.
Christie’s expects the strong watch sales to continue through the rest of the year, with important auctions scheduled for October and November.
On Oct. 12, the company will host a New York sale featuring a Patek Philippe gold chronograph Ref. 1491 valued at $200,000-$400,000 and a rare perpetual calendar and moon phase Patek Philippe gold watch, ref. 2499, valued at $250,000-$350,000.
On Nov. 13, Christie’s will convene a Geneva sale offering a Patek Philippe World Time watch valued at about $485,000-$727,484 and a stainless steel Patek Philippe valued at $161,663-$242,493.
