MySpace to auction off search

Published June 20th, 2006

Social network site MySpace last week announced it is to put its search engine up for grabs amongst some of the industry’s biggest players.
During a Deutsch Bank Media and Telecom conference, Peter Chermin, the chief operating officer of parent company News Corp, said the firm will “auction off our search business to one of the three biggest, Google, Yahoo and MSN, and see the best we can get.”

Ross Levinsohn, president of the group, said the company hopes to make an agreement with a search engine provider within the next two months.

MySpace was bought by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation last year for £315m.
