Nigerian River Police to auction off vehicles

The Magistrate Court in Rumuoba, Obio in Port Harcourt, has ordered the Mini-Okoro police station to dispose of vehicles and motorcycles in its possession by public auction or destruction.

This order the court said is in accordance with sections 31 and 32 of the Police Act Cap 154 Law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The order however, followed an application by the Mini-Okoro Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to the Chief Magistrate for authorisation to dispose of unclaimed exhibits through public auction.

The exhibits include Volkswagen Passat, Nissan Sunny Cheroke Jeep, Volvo, Toyota and other brands of vehicles in addition to different brands of motorcycles.

The public auction sales it will be recalled, followed a public notice where the vehicles and motorcycles were published for their respective owners to identify and claim them within one month and some days of grace.

Similar public auction of exhibits is expected to be carried out in Okehi, in Etche Local Government Area, Buguma, in Asari-Toru, Local Government Area and Ahoada police station, where three vehicles with registration numbers (CG 255PHC, Blue Mercedez-Benz 190); (EDO FZ 311 Benz, Mercedez-Ben Truck) and Mercedez-Benz 190 (without number) will be publicly auctioned.
