HEXHAM mart is reporting a strong trade in older cattle this spring, despite initial fears that the ending of the over-30 months scheme would depress the market.
The scheme ended last November, allowing older cattle back onto the market for the first time in 10 years. With sales every Tuesday for the animals, Hexham mart auctioneer Robert Whitelock has been pleasantly surprised by a brisk trade and good prices.
