ANZAC auction upsets old soldiers

Veteran servicemen are dismayed about an attempt to cash in on the word ANZAC.

TradeMe is hosting bids for a website anzac.net.nz. The vendor says the name is well recognised in Australia and New Zealand and can attract up to 20,000 hits around ANZAC Day.

The Ministry of Culture and Heritage is trying to prevent the sale by logging on and publicly declaring that using the acronym for commercial gain is prohibited under the Flags Emblems and Names Protection Act 1981.

RSA National President, John Campbell, says using ANZAC for such a purpose would be highly offensive.
