Tea offered for sale at the East Africa tea export auction in the Kenyan Indian Ocean port city of Mombasa dropped drastically this week compared to sales during the same period in 2005, a report indicated here Saturday.
The situation has been attributed to drought, which has hit many tea growing zones in the country, said the report by Africa Tea Brokers.
It indicated that 57,159 packages were offered for sale this week against 124,249 sold last year.
In this week`s auction, Kenya offered 40,700 packages for sale compared to 96,860 offered last year, while an overall decline in demand saw a drop in prices.
