Published March 1st, 2006

The Premiere Napa Valley mid-winter auction raised a record $1.87 million Saturday, 28 percent more than 2005’s total of almost $1.46 million.

The Napa Valley Vintners trade association, which sponsors the decade-old, wine-trade-only event, said Monday that 67 bidders bought 181 lots of wine, including five-case, 10-case and 20-case lots at the annual event, which raises funds to support the nonprofit group’s efforts to promote and protect the Napa Valley brand. That represented a 10 percent jump in volume over the prior year, and overall nearly 1,200 cases were up for auction.
