2nd Australian Camel auction

A camel farmer is planning another camel auction in central Queensland later this year after the success of last year’s sale.

Australia’s first camel sale was held at the Gracemere Saleyards near Rockhampton.

The managing director of the Australia Camel Farm, Paddy McHugh, says demand for camel meat is getting stronger in both Australia and overseas.

Mr McHugh is confident a sale later this year will be just as successful as the first.

“Yes, it was hugely successful and I’ve had dozens of phone calls since then for camels and just general enquires and things like that,” he said.

“We’re planning one in May again there, we’ll bring another 100 to 150 camels down and have a repeat after the success of it, it was just fantastic.”
