eBay halts Excel vulnerability auction
Published December 12th, 2005
eBay have pulled an auction in which the highest bidder will ‘win’ information on how to exploit an alleged flaw in Microsoft’s Excel.
The vulnerability, if exploited, could allow a malicious programmer to take control of a Windows based PC if the unwitting recipient of the spreadsheet opens it in Exel.
A spokeswoman for eBay explained:
“The listing was immediately reviewed and pulled from the site for violating our policy against promoting illegal activity – hacking.”
