Lost Titian portrait fails to sell at auction

A unique portrait by Italian Old Master Titian, painted over and rediscovered more than 400 years later, failed to sell at auction in London on Thursday, despite attracting interest from around the world.

Auctioneer Christie’s said the painting was expected to fetch between five and eight million pounds but did not reach its reserve price.
